First draft story board

Each member of my group had to make their own story board containing their own ideas about the trailer and what order things should go in. Although we are doing the trailer together we thought it would be best to do seperate story boards so all of our individual ideas can be shown and how we want them to be shown. This would also make us make the most out of our ideas as we can put everything we have thought about on the storyboard clearly. Here is the first draft of my story board:

This is the first draft of my story board, as you can see it is very basic as i have decided to have basic ideas at first and then add more detail when i do my final story board.

Slide 1-
This would be the opening slide for the trailer. It means the trailer would start off all nice and happy, and then suddenly would get scarier as the trailer goes on. I liked the innocence of the girl walking the dog in a seeminly safe environment as this would make the audience wonder what is going to happen to the girl straight away. I would start the opening off with an establishing shot so the audience can establish where she is from and what type of girl she is. I would then cut to a midshot of the girl so the audience can see the innocence in her costume, posture and face.

Slide 2-
For the second slide I have decided to put a black screen on my story board, text could later be added into it as i develop my storyboard. I decided a black screen with be appropriate as it would contrast with the happiness of the girl innocently walking her dog. A black screen could also be used to introduce the man following the girl because as the black screen goes he could be standing there. I think a black screen could be useful for many reasons as it could add a sense of fear to the trailer, but also mystery as the audience will wonder what is going to come up after it. It would also be a good idea to add clicking noises when the black goes in or out so it gives the impression of someone taking a picture of someone else.

Slide 3-
This slide is a girl walking through the woods with her dog, she is still unaware of danger, although the audience would know something strange is happening at this point due to eerie music that would be played non-diegetically. I would start this as a medium shot so it just seems normal, and then slowly zoom in so it is a close up of the girl and her innocent facial expression. This shot would start off light but slowly get darker as she walks in to the trees. When she walks into the trees i would have the non-diegetic clicking noise again to add the suspision to the trailer and to make the audience excited to know what will happen.

Slide 4-
On the fourth slide i decided to have the black background again but this time with actors/actress' names. I thought this would be a good idea as good, likeable actors would make people want to see the film. I also thought the black would be good because it adds to the sense of darkness that is being made. I would add the camera click here as well to add even more to the mystery of the trailer. Having the actors/actress' names in white or red with the effect of the letters being dripping blood would be a good idea because it would add to the sense of and fear that is building up. It would also add detail to the trailer because the font would be more appealing being detailed and than just an average font.

Slide 5-
This would be the bit where the figure of a man would appear in the trees and hopefully make the audience jump. The man would just be a shadow at this point with no detail in his face to keep the suspense building up. The girl would start to look scared and she realises there is someone behind her. I am not sure what shot i would use for this yet, i am thinking a midshot as it would get both the girl and the man in, whereas a closeup would only get one of them. I might go to a close up of the girl's face after the midshot so the audience can see the fear in her face. If i did use a close up i would use the clicking noise again but this time diegetically so when she hears it she looks even more scared.

Slide 6-
For this one i was going to have a black background to again. After the clip the audience will have just seen a black background will make them more scared, especially if i have the blood writing for the release date too. I think having a release date on my story board is a good idea as the audience will know key information about the film. I will discuss with my group how they feel about a release date to see if it should be put in the trailer. I was going to have the camera flash noise again when the release date comes up to keep the continual suspense that the camera flash would cause going.

Slide 7-
In this one the girl starts to run away and the man starts to chase her. You get a more detailed image of the man because he comes closer to the camera as he chases her. You still don't get to see him in detail, just more a person rather than just a figure. When this is happening it would be dark outside with rain, thunder and lightning. I would also have the diegetic sound of the girl screaming - "AHHHHHH". I am also considering a close up of the girls face as she is looking round for the man, and then his shadow suddenly appears behind her. I was also considering putting the clicking noise in when the girl is looking around but i think her screaming would give just the right effect.

Slide 8-
I thought having a black screen to end it would be a good idea as it wouldn't give the ending of the film away and would leave the audience wondering what would happen. I would have a straight cut to black so it cuts from the previous scene quickly. I think trailer should be ended on a cliffhanger as that would make the audience want to see the film more than if it gave the ending away. I was considering putting writing on the black screen but i will discuss that with my group because i think it would have a good effect if it was just black.
