Editing again - 30th November

Today our group just needed to focus on finishing the sound and adding the transition shot of the film title and release date to the end of the trailer. We started with sound and Sally put the sound in the shared area and Aimee imported them into Final Cut Pro. We put the sound Electric Flutters with the eye shot and once it had been tweeked it sounded good and suited the shot. We then looked at the man breathing and once that was the right volume it really suited the p.o.v shot as it didn't overpower the shot but it still sounded scary. We then used Booming Reverse 1 for the fast shots, this was difficult to get it sounding right and not out of time because we had quite a few fast shots so we had to make sure it went well with them. Once the sounds had been shortened it sounded a lot better because it went well with the shots instead of finishing when a shot was still happening. For the shot of Kate running Sally said she had been looking at Star Drive Rumble, at first I didn't like this but after it had been played a few times I thought it sounded good. With all of the sounds they sounded good in the end because there was a wide contrast of sounds, the only thing we worried about was that it would sound like there was too many different sounds on the trailer. We put Sally's recording on the beginning of the trailer and we tried it at the end but it didn't go well because of the louder and scarier sounds before it so we put Star Drive Rumble on the end of the trailer as well. When the transitions were happening we wanted a Click sound so the title of our trailer wasn't completely lost with all of the different things happen. We put these on the trailer and it was very effective as it enforced the idea she was being stalked so it seemed creepier. On the last shot 'Click' was copied and pasted from Photoshop and then the release date was put on the bottom. Then we watched the trailer with the sound and we really liked it and we thought the sound made the trailer seem a lot better than it was without sound.

Editing again - 26th November

Today we focused on trying to get most or all of the editing finished. At the start of the lesson we started looking at transitions and Aimee got help with putting the transitions onto the trailer and when this had been done we discussed what templates we were going to use for the transitions. Me and Hannah then went on a different Mac to look for the quote from Empire so Aimee could add it onto the template for the transitions; while we were doing this Sally was focusing on sound on Protools and working on getting the timing correct.

Me and then Sally were then looking at sound together. We looked at a lot of different sounds to see if they would suit the trailer and changed the volume and length of the sounds to see what would sound best and how the sound would sound best. We did this for quite a long time as we looked at many different sounds and tried to get them completely right. When then joined in with Hannah and Aimee and looked at the trailer to see if everything looked right. The first shot of the trailer is an establishing shot of the street and then a speeded up black and white shot of an eye, then it goes back to the estbalishing shot. After this there is the producer logo and then a shot of Kate shutting the front door. We then did another shot of the black and white speeded up eye as we thought twice would give it more of an impact but still make the audience wonder what is going to happen. We then have an establishing shot of the grassy area we filmed in, this wasn't originally part of the storyboard but as the lighting was good when we were filming we decided it would be good to use. After this there is a shot of Kate walking through the gate, and then the tagline. Then there is a close up of the gate closing and you can hear the screeching sound of the gate closing; this is the only sound we have on the trailer at the moment as we are adding it after. There is then Kate walking into the forrest and then a p.o.v shot to give the effect that someone is watching her. We then have the quote from Empire magazine, this was the quote that I originally used and the rest of the group thought it sounded good. Then our quick shots begin and the first is a bloody hand print on a tree, then there is an over the shoulder shot of Kate where she slightly turns her head towards the camera. After that there is a pan shot of the grassy placed we filmed, close up of Kate's face, Kate's feet running, a close up of Kate's eye moving, and Kate running. That is the last fast shot because then it cuts to the shrine and then our last shot is Kate looking in the shrine and turning to face the camera (which is meant to be someone watching her), which the picture in her hand. We have taken some shots out of the storyboard like the arial shot as that would have been to difficult to do.

Me and Hannah then looked at transitions and we all agreed on corner crawl as the other transitions did not suit our trailer. Then we looked at sound and Sally showed us all of the sounds she had created on Photoshop and then she added a fuzzy noise on the top of her guitar but it overpowered the guitar so she turned it down a bit, and then it sounded good. Now all we have left is the sound to put on our trailer and then we have finished.

Editing again - 19th November

Today our group carried on with our editing and we made quite a lot of progress. Firstly, Aimee put the editing software(Final Cut Pro) and Aimee, Hannah and me re watched the trailer and decided what needed to be cut out, what lighting needed to be changed and also what would look better with a different contrast. While we were doing this Sally went and got a guitar from the music block so she could show us what she had done and maybe record something.
When Sally came back she played us what she had done, we all liked it but she couldn't record yet as we did not know the final length of the trailer so it couldn't fit together. Me and Sally then had a discussion about how fast she is going to be playing and things like that and we also looked at making different heartbeat noises on the Mac's.
With editing Aimee was changing the colour contrast, and we all agreed to start from the end and work our way to the beginning; to do this Aimee went onto video filters, image control and then brightness and contrast. When we were looking at the shrine shot Aimee made the background darker so it seemed like it was deep in the woods and quite late at night, this also made Kate look lighter compared to the background.
We were then looking at a shot of Kate running, and even with the contrast changed it still looked light. We were not sure what to do about this because it did not fit in with the part of the trailer it was in, but then Sally suggested that the trailer did not have to be in chronological order because they often aren't.
We then looked at a shot of Kate's eye and Aimee suggested we do it black and white, she also suggested the When a Stranger Calls trailer because that has a black and white bit, so we looked at that and liked it, so Aimee put the eye in black and white and we all liked it.
We then looked at sound a bit and listened to heart beat sounds on the Mac but we couldn't listen out loud as there was recording going on in the next room so we all took it in turns to listen with the headphones. Me and Sally then had another discussion about sound where we were both suggesting and looking at different sounds and as I also play guitar I listening to her guitar playing in depth.
Finally, me and Hannah suggested you could add a quick shot on an eye to the beginning of the trailer so the bit before she goes into the woods is not boring. Aimee then did this and we all watched the trailer and liked it, all we need to do is edit a few minor things and put the sound on and then we are finished.

Our final producer logo

This is the producer logo we chose; we chose this because we all liked the colour in it as it wasn't boring and wouldn't go un noticed.

Producer logo's

This is the first producer logo Hannah and I did. We placed the image on Photoshop and put Cardinal Motion in red text over the top of it. We experimented with where the text would go and also what colour the text would be and also had to get rid of the word 'sample' which was over the front of the image.

This is the second producer logo Hannah and I did. For this one we again placed the picture on Photoshop and experimented with the text and where it would go, but this time we had to delete an X which was in the background. We weren't sure where to put the text or whether to put it horizontal or vertical, but after trying quite a few different things we settled for having it horizontal and in the picture.

This is our final producer logo Hannah and I made. For this one we added a grey background to behind the picture. We thought grey would look good because we tried brighter colours but they didn't look right. We then tried many different fonts and font colours and decided the one we have now is the one that looks best. We were then undecided whether to have the text in the lighter part of the picture or in the video camera so our group decided together where it would look better.

Editing - 16h November

Today our group came into school to spend the day in the media suite editing. Firstly we watched all the shots we had recorded and decided which bits of shots were the best and which bits we shouldn't use. We watched the shots that were on the school tape first and the ones that were recorded outside of school on Sally's camera after; we then captured the shots we wanted and would use from the school tape. Throughout this Aimee was the person who was on the mac clicking. After this she imported the shots we recorded from Sally's camera onto the Mac and these were the last of our clips to be imported.
After this had happened Hannah and I went to work on a producer's logo, Sally went to look at possible templates for our trailer and Aimee starting placing our clips on a time line and cutting out the bits we didn't want. Although we were doing different tasks we all helped each other and asked each other's opinions on what we had done.
When Hannah and I were doing the producer's logo we firstly started by looking at the production logo's in trailers; we focused on the one's in The Last House On The Left and The Amityville Horror. When we had looked at these we saw that they were all simple and in black and white. We wanted ours to be simple but thought of the idea of adding colour to one of them to see what it looked like.
Hannah and I then went onto Photoshop and tried out different fonts and put images behind the writing to experiment with what looked best. We decided on three images that we liked best from the internet to be in our producer's logo. After this we discussed as a group which one we all liked best and a majority of us decided that the third one we created was best, so that will be our producer's logo.
We all then went to Aimee and she was cutting out shots and decided what would look best where, so we then all had an input on this. At the end of our day editing we had all the shots we were having in order on Final Cut Pro (the software we are using for editing.)

Filming - 9th November

We filmed again in our media lesson today - this time we filmed on school grounds and our teacher came with us. We decided today to film the rest of the close ups and extreme close ups - there was not many so it wouldn't take us that long to film. We firstly filmed a close up of Kate looking around scared - I was directing her what to do and I directed her in many different poses because we wanted this shot to be perfect as it really focused on her face. After this Aimee suggested we did an extreme close up of Kate's eye - we recorded her moving her eye around for about 15 seconds so we had quite a lot of extra footage.
Our last shot was then a close up of Kate moving her head around frantically - I directed her with what to do but it did take quite a while because it was cold and she becoming really cold, even though eventually it did work and we got a really good shot.
This was all the filming we did today and we will watch the filming next time we have a meeting - we have filmed basically everything for our trailer and if we need to re do anything it will just be minor things. Now we need to decide what to edit so we will also do this in our next meeting.

Filming - 7th November

Today we met up to carry on with our filming. Firstly we filmed the establishing shot of the houses - we did this on Sally's road because it was nearby and looked like a normal, friendly street. At first we tried to film by standing on the opposite side of the road but this didn't work as the road was too narrow and we couldn't get much of the houses in; we then decided to stand in the entry and this worked and we got the shots. We got the shots of just houses with no movement but we also decided to do one where the camera is moving so it got most of the street in.
We then did the second shot on the storyboard which was the one of the key in the lock. There was confusion about this because me and Sally thought of Kate coming out and locking the door, while Hannah and Aimee thought it was a close up of the door lock, because of this happening we decided to do both and see which one looked best. After filming the one of Kate coming out and locking the door was more popular with our group, but we will decide on the final one when we look over our filming properly.
After we had filmed them two shots we went to the field where we were originally thinking of when we were creating our storyboards. This was a good place to film because it has lots of different things that we needed - trees, gates and clear bits of field. After we got to coundon wedge we filmed the next bit for our trailer. This was Kate walking through the field and then a close up of the gate she walked through closing. We did the shot of Kate walking three times just to make sure we had enough footage, and while me and Sally were putting her in position and telling her when to go, Aimee and Hannah were making sure the camera was level and everything was right with it. We then did the gate closing and Sally held the gate while she was out of site and I told her when to go; we did this twice because Sally's hand was in shot the first time and also there were horses in the field so we had to try to not get them in the shots.
We then decided to go to the wooded area so we could film Kate walking through the trees. Me and Sally went to show Kate where to stand so we walked through the woods and picked a good part out, while Aimee and Hannah were at the edge of the woods setting up the camera. After we had told Kate where to stand Hannah signalled to me when she was filming and I was standing at the side near Kate so I could see Hannah and signal to Kate when to go. We first one that was filmed was good but we decided to do it again and see what it would look like with Kate walking away from the camera into the woods instead of out of the woods towards the camera. Although we experimented with both the first shot was better as we could see Kate's facial expression instead of the back of the head. After this we decided to just have a shot of the woods just incase it would look appropraite somewhere in the trailer. After this me and Aimee went to set up the shrine while Sally painted her hand red and put it on a tree so it looked like a bloody hand print, Hannah then recorded this for one of the fast shots.
Hannah and Sally then came to help us finish the shrine and after we had finished it looked really good; Hannah took shots of just the shrine and then I directed Kate where to stand and what poses to do when she got into the shrine, and then Hannah recorded her in the shrine.
This was the end of our filming because it was getting too dark and we had also done basically everything we wanted to do - we made great progress with our filming and that is a majority of it done.

5th November meeting

In this meeting we watched the footage we created last time - we decided what was good and could be used and also what couldn't be used. We also discussed what we needed to film again if it didn't look quite right. We also decided we are not going to edit anything until we have all of our footage so we can decided after we have got everything what would be good to use and edit overall.
We decided to meet on the 7th November to film the rest of the storyboard, and to film anything that needs re filming. We are going to film the house first because we want it to be light when we film this, whereas everything else would look good if it was a little bit darker.
