For my first draft on Photoshop I decided to put a picture in the background. I added some effects to the picture such as changing the contrast and saturation, this gave the poster an eery effect because it made it quite dark. I also darkened the top half of the background in the picture, this is so you couldn't see the outlines of the trees that much so it looked scarier because you couldn't see what is hiding in the trees behind her.
I then liquified the film title, this added to the eerie effect and the black behind it made it stand out; if i did this again on this poster i would change the black to red to see if the effect was eerier or not. The film title is the largest font so it is attractive, and because it is unusual it immediatly shows the film is going to be a horror.
The release date underneath the picture is also white with black behind it, and although it is not liquified I chose a font that resembled liquify the most. I made this smaller as it does not need to be as eye catching, but as it is right below the title people will automatically see it. I put it in italics to add to the unusual feel about the poster.
I then put the billing block right at the bottom, the font in the billing block is quite noticeable as it is large compared to normal billing blocks, and when the group decide on a final poster I think the billing block should have a smaller font. I decided not to put any information in the billing block because this poster is only a draft so I didn't think it would be neccessary.
The tagline is to the right of the poster, I think the tagline looks good here as you can clearly see it, even though I also think it would look good above the actress' head. The tagline has the same writing and black behind it as the other text, and I think this works here because it is really noticeable against the picture. My tagline might not be my final tagline, but I thought asking a question was good because it makes the audience think.
Finally, the actress' name at the top is in the same font as the others, but as behind the name is black it stands out a lot; I think this is good because people are attracted to films by the people in them. If an actors name is also put on the top Kate's name would be to the left, but I like there only being one name because it means all of the attention is on it.
I decided to keep it simple for my first draft, and see what works and what doesn't work.
